Lorenzo Sanchez

State HouseDemocrat

TX-HD-70 State House

Age 40·Mexican-American·President, Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity (Loyola University Chicago)

Why This Race Matters

Sanchez ran twice for the Texas House: in 2020 for HD-67 where he won the Democratic primary runoff but lost to incumbent Jeff Leach (R) with 48.3%, and in 2022 for HD-70 where he finished third in the Democratic primary. He did not file for the 2026 election cycle.

Campaign website (lorenzofortexas.com) is no longer active. Sister District Project lists him as an inactive candidate. HD-70 is now held by incumbent Mihaela Plesa (D), who won in 2022 and 2024 and is running unopposed in the 2026 Democratic primary. Sanchez was endorsed by the Dallas Morning News, Latino Victory Fund, and Run For Something.

About

A first-generation Mexican American raised in Plano by a single mother who worked two jobs, Lorenzo Sanchez learned early the value of hard work and sacrifice. He attended Plano ISD schools before earning his degree from Loyola University Chicago, where he served as President of the Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity and volunteered as an aide for children with disabilities. After graduation, he returned home to be with his family and built a successful realty business. If elected, he would make history as the first Latino from Collin County and the first openly LGBTQ+ male Democrat elected to the Texas Legislature.
