Born on May 11, 1974, in Brooklyn, New York. Son of Martin Malave Dilan, who served in the New York City Council and New York State Senate. Grew up in Brooklyn's Bushwick and Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhoods. Part of a Puerto Rican political family with deep roots in Brooklyn.

Before Politics

Member of Community School Board #32, working to find the best educators and policies for the children of Bushwick. Served 12 years in the New York City Council as Chairperson of the Housing and Building Committee, Chairperson of the Brooklyn Delegation, and member of the budget negotiating team.
