State HouseDemocrat

IL-HD-40 State House

Age 53·Mexican-American·Assistant House Majority Leader

Why This Race Matters

Jaime Andrade Jr. is running against Miguel Alvelo-Rivera (D, challenger).

Andrade faces a Democratic primary challenge in his northwest Chicago district. As chair of the Cybersecurity, Data Analytics & IT Committee and author of the nation's first AI hiring regulation law, his reelection is significant for Illinois' continued leadership in technology policy.

Andrade has held HD-40 since his 2013 appointment replacing Deb Mell. Won 2024 general election against Republican Patrycja Karlin. No Republican filed for 2026, so the March 17 Democratic primary is effectively the general election.

Key dates to watch: Primary on March 17, 2026 and General Election on November 3, 2026.
