Political Career
Before Politics
40-year career in law enforcement spanning multiple Idaho agencies. Served 30 years as a homicide detective with the Canyon County Sheriff's Office and Bonneville County Sheriff's Office in Idaho Falls. Retired from the Nampa Police Department in 2012 as a detective, where he worked in patrol division and property crimes after transferring out of homicide investigations in 2005. Notable case: Lead investigator on the Paul Ezra Rhoades serial killer case in the 1980s, successfully catching and convicting the murderer of three victims. Featured on Discovery Channel programs including "True Detective, Ice Cold Killers" and "On the Case with Paula Zahn." Of his 22 homicide investigations, none of the convictions were appealed.
